Jim Goodyear, Vicar
What or who is a vicar? A vicar is a person preparing for ministry;
a pastor in training. Over the next year, I will work directly with
Pastor Todd, an Internship Committee, and the congregation to further
shape my gifts for ministry. It will be a time of trying new ideas,
discarding some and fine tuning others. I am currently a seminarian
(studying for public ministry in the ELCA) at the Lutheran Theological
Seminary in Philadelphia (LTSP). I have been enrolled there since the
fall of 2004. Upon successful completion of my internship I will return
to LTSP complete my academic education. Prior to entering Seminary, I
managed a catering company in York, Pennsylvania, my home town. All of
my work experience has been in the hospitality industry, specifically
family-owned restaurants and/or catering businesses. While working I
completed my undergraduate studies in the Accelerated Degree Completion
Program at Eastern University. I earned a BA in Organizational
Management in July 2004.
I have three younger brothers who live in the York area with their families. My parents are both retired and enjoying life...especially their nine grandchildren. I have two adult sons. Bradley lives in California and serves with the California National Guard. He recently returned from Kuwait. His wife, Meghan, serves in the United States Marine Corps and is deployed in Al Hasad, Iraq. Bryan, completed his basic training with the US Army as an Intelligence Specialist and will be stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas. In my free time, I enjoy gardening (vegetable and flower), spending time with family, long walks along the beach or on a mountain trail, and cooking for friends.
I am looking forward to this learning experience. May God continue to bless you wherever you are, in whatever you do and with whomever you meet.
